Sickle Cell Disease of Illinois Counseling

The well-being and welfare of sickle cell patients is SCDAI's primary concern. Therefore we offer a variety of services to meet individual and family needs. SCDAI's services encompass: education, counseling, referrals to health care and social service agencies, scholarships and emergency financial assistance.

The quintessential counseling program is intended to help keep patients and their families informed about sickle cell disease and to respond to the wide spectrum of questions and concerns that surface during the counseling sessions; e.g., unemployment, transportation needs, problems with social security benefits. As a result, over the past five years our referral services have been called upon by 3,500 patients and family members.

Requests for other forms of assistance are responded to on an as-needed basis, including grants for clothing, food, shelter, utilities, transportation and other personal and household necessities.
